Support Dr Emily Cliff's compassionate exemption to work abroad
The issue
Dr Emily Cliff needs to travel to the US for family reasons; although all of the work she does for this course is fully online and could be done from anywhere, the university has a policy against allowing work from abroad. The School of Maths applied for a "compassionate exemption" to this policy on her behalf, but the university has so far declined to consider it. It seems likely that she will be forced to resign when she leaves the country.
Apart from the fact that this is very unfair in this time of COVID to punish a lecturer for attending to emergency family matters, we support Dr Emily Cliff's application for compassionate exemption because she is a very dedicated and good lecturer who is fully committed to make maths more accessible and understandable to most of her students.
