The University has made a statement where they claim that they do not tolerate violence of any kind, that they have established disciplinary procedures and are responding to the court's findings.
However, seeing as the court ruling was made back in July, this seems like a very delayed reaction. As well as this, Sussex's decision to keep Dr Slater on as a tutor, despite the protests of his victim, speaks louder than their words and their claims that 'the welfare of our community is paramount'.
Whilst we can welcome the opening of disciplinary proceedings, we should not stop putting pressure on the University of Sussex until Dr Slater has been fired.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have signed the petition. The amount of support it has received in just a few hours shows that the academic community has a zero tolerance for such violent behaviour. Please continue to share this with other people to increase the pressure on Sussex to remove this horrible individual from their employ.
