It has been revealed that , a senior media and communications lecturer at the University of Sussex was convicted of assault on 13 July this year for beating up his 24 year old student girlfriend.
An article from the Independent (TW: graphic images, abuse and domestic violence http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sussex-university-lecturer-student-girlfriend-criminal-conviction-beat-up-assault-000-000000-a7183391.html) explains that punched the victim in the face, knocked her out, stamped on her and poured salt in her eyes and ears.
However, despite repeated complaints and protests from the traumatised victim, was allowed to continue teaching and remains in the employment of the University of Sussex to this day.
We, the students of the University of Sussex and members of the academic community, completely object to this and believe that Sussex has disregarded the safety of its students by doing so. No person who has abused their position of power and attacks a student deserves to teach at any level.
We, therefore, demand the University of Sussex fire with immediate effect.
