The Issue
Camp Adventure™ Child and Youth Services is a service-learning program focused on providing high-quality, high-impact services for children and youth worldwide. Each year hundreds of college students from around the country are placed on various military installations around the world. Throughout the year, Camp Adventure works to serve those who serve our country by assisting various youth programs. Camp was built on a firm foundation of leadership skills, meaningful experiences, and real-life exposure to culture and diversity.
Camp Adventure had been around since 1985 and was headquartered out of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) until March 6th, 2020. UNI suddenly decided to terminate the program permanently due to the COVID-19 virus causing restrictions on travel for summer 2020. Now, thousands of military families are at a loss of child care in various programs such as: child development centers, school-age care, teen programs, sport camps, fit clubs and aquatics.
Over 20,000 college students have participated in this program leaving a positive impact on millions of military families. Students gained leadership skills, as well as acquired knowledge regarding child and youth development, behavior management, risk management, conflict resolution, youth programming and values/character development. Camp was a program run by students who were dedicated, passionate, committed, and had a love for youth.
Please consider signing this petition to show our collective support for Camp Adventure and hope to rebuild in the future.
