Institute a 7-10 point grade increase for all students at UNCG through the Faculty Senate.

The Issue

Students are struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic and the Faculty Senate of UNCG has failed to provide adequate relief for students. The Student Government Association is asking for the Faculty Senate to institute a 7-10 point grade increase to help students who have been unable to excel in the high expectations for students who are stuck in unworkable conditions

The University has produced an academic relief package which includes satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading, however, the administration has suggested to not do this as it will likely hurt you in the future. Since instituting a strategy which the administration recommends you not use, this has resulted with no relief to students.

Additionally, students do not have the same resources they would normally have through a traditional setting of university learning. And recognizing that there is a massive disparity in resources between students from varying backgrounds, many students are set up to fail in the COVID-19 pandemic or face the long term consequences of accepting a satisfactory/unsatisfactory mark on their transcript.

This is not fair to the students at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Therefore, the Student Government Association of UNCG calls upon the Faculty Senate to institute a 7-10 point grade increase to support the students and provide a more equitable academic relief policy to help students, not hurt them.
