Make UNC Put Restrictions On Greek Life To Avoid COVID-19 Outbreak

The Issue

On August 3rd, 2020, UNC-Chapel Hill will reopen its campus and students will begin moving back in while we still face the global pandemic of COVID-19. While UNC has implemented many restrictions to attempt to protect its students, there has been no restriction on Greek Life.

This becomes more worrisome considering comments from some fraternities. Delta Kappa Epsilon has already explicitly stated they will continue to have parties and not wear masks. Many Greek Life members have already posted themselves not wearing masks and attending parties this summer during the pandemic on social media.

The reckless and outright denial to abide with CDC safety restrictions proves that UNC Fraternities and Sororities are not fit to govern themselves during the current challenge of COVID-19 that UNC-Chapel Hill and the globe at-large is facing. The below proposal requests that UNC Administration put restrictions on Greek Life to keep the students, staff, and community of UNC and Chapel Hill safe.

A restrictions plan detailing how UNC Greek Life and other organizations on campus can be stopped from spreading COVID-19 can be found at the link here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/17xACEJq2MWrPak6OWAOmlNXpAulFXLYoe9K_wg8Yf7c/edit?usp=sharing
