Stop the balloon release!

Stop the balloon release!

The Issue

The University of New England is a school that prides itself on being green and environmentally friendly. The university is planning a balloon release on September 24th, 2016. This event is a major setback in terms of being eco friendly. When released, balloons can travel thousands of miles and frequently end up in our oceans and waterways. Turtles mistake these balloons as jellyfish and will often die due to gut impaction. The string and/or rope attached to these balloons are often ingested by species, such as birds, and/or cause entanglement that often leads to death.

Companies often falsely label balloons as "biodegradable" to increase sales, when in fact, they can take years to break down.

for more information about how "biodegradable" balloons are falsely sold and the impacts they can have on the environment.

My question is, why risk even a single life?

Using bubbles for an event like this is a safe and cheap alternative.

Together we can stop this event and future events like it!

We need to preserve the environment!
