Sign the Move-In U of M Duluth Petition

The Issue

We the undersigned would like the University of Minnesota  Board of Regents to vote on a motion to allow the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) to create an independent move in plan for their campus, which is separate from that of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus (U of M).  This request is derived from Regent Hsu’s proposal he brought forward during the August 24, 2020 University of Minnesota Board of Regents meeting.

UMD’s classes are scheduled to begin August 31, 2020, and were set and scheduled to move in this week. However, after the BOR voted to approve a delay recommended by Joan Gabel, UMD students are not allowed to move in to their on campus housing yet.

We agree with Regent Hsu when he stated to UMD’s Chancellor Black and U of M Regents Anderson and McMillan;   “I think that since your (UMD) campus is so close to move-in date, maybe we carve out your students in a way that would allow them to move in on time.”

It should also be noted that many students, both on and off campus, have already moved to Duluth for the Fall 2020 Semester. As Chancellor Black stated during the BOR meeting yesterday, “The UMD campus is ready!”

The University of Minnesota Crookston and Morris campuses under the U of M umbrella like UMD, were able to move-in as scheduled and were not affected by Gabel’s proposal to delay.
