University of Melbourne: Don't shut down the only animal hospital in Melbourne's west

The issue

Melbourne University has announced plans to close its U-Vet animal hospital at Werribee which has been the only 24 Hour Emergency Vet in Melbourne's western suburbs.

This is a huge loss not just for pet owners, but also threatens reduced Veterinarian training standards if we lose this university teaching hospital.

My beautiful dog who passed away some time ago had received the most fantastic care from vets at UVet. I'm so grateful for their commitment and care; our community needs this vital service.

University of Melbourne - please keep this valuable centre open for the public and staff who work there.

Please ask your friends to sign the petition, and along with yourself we invite you to the following important event-

Dear Supporter,

Thank you for signing the petition against the closure of the U-Vet Animal Hospital, but things are moving fast and we need your help.
The University of Melbourne is now planning on closing down U-Vet in December and if we’re going to save our valued animal hospital, we need to act fast.

U-Vet is the only veterinary teaching hospital in Victoria, where students can gain hands on experience providing veterinary care to animals of all shapes and sizes. It’s ongoing operation is absolutely critical in training the quality vets we need for the  future.

The U–Vet Animal Hospital also provides a full range of veterinary services to thousands of pets in our local community every year. U-Vet is vital in protecting our pets health.

The closure of U-Vet will result in the job losses of over 100 highly skilled veterinary staff which provide 80 specialist skills not available anywhere else in Victoria. We need U-Vet to continue providing this important services for all animals across the  state.

We’re calling on the Victorian State Government and Federal Government to intervene to stop the closure of this important facility. We need our local State MP and Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas to help.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
You can help stop the closure of U-Vet by joining students, staff and community members who are holding a protest and sit in outside U-Vet to oppose its closure.
