Whether you agree with the proposal to change the UMD Grading System or not, the simple fact is that the administration neither solicited nor received the student input that is necessary to implement such a wide-sweeping change.

During the University Senate meeting on November 9, 2011, non-student senators voted not only to prevent debate on a motion to gather more student input for this policy, but voted to prevent an undergraduate senator from voicing the concerns of his constituents.

The purpose of this petition is not to advocate for or against the implementation, the purpose is to demand that the University Senate reconsider the vote on the implementation plan so that students can be given the deference they deserve in a system of shared governance.
