Hayleigh Walker started this petition to Neeli Bendapudi University of Louisville

On Tuesday, February 16, 2021 the University of Louisville announced via instagram, and only instagram, some new dining hours in effect for the remainder of the spring 2021 semester. These changes included closing some dining locations for the remainder of the semester, closing almost everywhere for the weekends, and having most places open for only a few hours a day.

These changes were announced with no warning. UofL requires its students to purchase a meal plan if they live on campus. The cheapest plan for students living in traditional halls is $1,745.00 per semester. The cheapest plan for students living in apartment style halls is $1,115.00. Students obviously questioned this decision and are angered by it. Freshmen living in traditional halls have no access to their own kitchens and rely on the university dining spaces for food during the week and especially on the weekends. The closings now in effect will deprive hundreds of students of basic food they need on the weekends.

We students call on the University of Louisville administration to address this out of nowhere change and to respond to students as the human beings we are. Dining hours either need to be reinstated or partial refunds need to be given. If UofL Dining is allowed to change its hours out of nowhere, students should be allowed to cancel their meal plans whenever.

Let it also be know that it is quite clear that UofL does not care about its students. These changes were only announced via instagram, a platform not everyone has access to. Once prompted for an explanation, @uofldining took over twelve hours to provide a performative response that contained no actual reasoning. Upon further questioning from other students, they felt copying and pasting the same message and changing the name was adequate. For a brief period, @uofldining instagram also turned off their comments, effectively silencing students who wish to voice their concerns. Comments were not reinstated until called out on the action. UofL refuses to provide an adequate explanation. We students deserve better. Some will starve with these changes. Do better UofL. This is all performative.
