Partial Tuition Refund For UL Students

Partial Tuition Refund For UL Students
The Issue
This petition will demand partial tuition refunds and waved athletic fees for the entire time we have been in remote learning settings due to Covid-19
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have no choice but to follow the orders of the universities’, state’s, and federal safety guidelines and transition to online, distance learning. While some lecture-based classes are more easily transferred to remote learning, others are not. This includes: laboratories, studios, and other on-campus events that support our success. While this is an important transition in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, this transition means, for most to all students, that we are not getting the educational experience that we are paying for. What we are paying for is a full education environment, with full building access that on-campus learning offers to the students which includes access to a more hands-on experience in laboratories and studios. Now, with our traditional learning environments being stripped away and moved to remote learning, we are NOT getting the experience we are paying for.
Questions that many students may ask is:
Why are we still required to pay full tuition if we are not able to access the facilities that we work hard to learn in? Why are we paying full tuition if other online programs are more inexpensive then on-campus programs?
Why are we still required to pay athletic fees if all sports are not to resume or continue their season? What benefits are we getting as students if we are paying money and not able to attend any sporting events or any other on-campus events?
The fact that this is not a concern for the university’s officials, it brings up questions if they actually are putting the students as a priority during this pandemic.
