Hello, thank you for your support over a year ago for the Intercollegiate Clubs & Societies of the University of London, but we must ask for your help again.
Your overwhelming support and comments previously forced the University to reconsider their decision and to recognize the benefits, representation, and well-being impact of the clubs & societies. Ultimately the University agreed these activities should continue but decided to transfer them to willing member institutes. This process is still ongoing but has been severely impacted and undermined by two major factors: the COVID-19 pandemic and the University’s decision to sell the Student Central building, including its swimming pool, sports hall, gym, bars and grand hall, all of which are currently earmarked for closure.
These spaces are vital to not only the clubs and societies, but also to a much wider community of students and staff in the Bloomsbury area of London. We have started a new petition to ask the University of London and Birkbeck University (as the new long-term leaseholder) to protect these spaces and keep them open for intercollegiate community student use.
Please sign and share this petition to prevent the loss of student fitness, mental-health and well-being spaces on offer to London Students returning to London post pandemic and to continue access for our Clubs and Societies.
There is a further pool specific petition by UCL Union that students or alumni from any university can please sign too.
