Students for Fees Compensation

Students for Fees Compensation

The Issue

Due to the Pandemic, all of the educational institutes have gone online. E-learning is anyway not worth the fees that students have paid. Apart from this, the on-campus facilities that students have been using for the first half of the year are not available anymore. The lovely libraries, discussion rooms, socialising, participating in social events and the most important, global exposure has been affected. Anyone choosing a University outside of their home country or home town has to leave all their near and dear one's and visit a whole new place and begin from scratch, paying a hefty sum of fees and rents for on-campus/off-campus accommodation, getting all your daily stuff done by yourself, all these sacrifices to gain something that's not available otherwise. The students from Ireland, coming from different counties, EU students, coming from various European countries and Other Internationals students from across the globe, come together to reputed Universities like ours to gain Education in the best form. This Pandemic was not expected by any of the parties i.e. Students or University, but since it has occurred, it will affect everyone, but in our vision, it will be the students who will get most affected. Many students have returned home, in order to stay safe along with their loved ones. The lockdown seems to have taken a toll on income sources of many students or their parents for the matter. Also, a lot of them seem to have taken huge amounts of loans to pay their tuition fees. The tuition fees range from €18000 to €37000 for various courses which a huge sum. A lot of students, staying on Campus are also paying rents, luckily some landlords were generous to offer partial grants, but even then, it's a burden to many. Looking at all these issues, the students have come together to demand compensation for the deterioration in the quality of education. The responses of students from Medical field readout, they do not have access to labs and getting a medical degree without practicals, is difficult to understand. That's just one example, we have loads of responses from students suffering from the same problem. The students think that asking for 30% of tuition fees as compensation would bring about some relief to the Crisis that they are facing also considering the quality of online education. Students across Ireland who wish to seek fees Compensation are free to sign up for this petition.
