As the University of Kentucky has transitioned to classes being taught remotely for the foreseeable future, students are no longer learning with the high quality in-class lectures would provide. Due to this transition, we do not believe that the tuition paid is equivalent to the material we receive. In addition, students no longer have access to the University’s facilities, which our tuition partially pays for. Because of this, students should be refunded the difference between online tuition and in class courses tuition. University of Kentucky students are full time students and therefore low income earners. It should not be the students’ responsibility to bear the cost of the impact Covid-19 has on academic resources. While we applaud UKY’s initiative in placing student health and safety as the main priority, it is important to take into consideration the financial impact on students. UKY is much better able to bear these financial costs than students as UKY tuition revenue amounted to $519,817,000.
