The Issue

Breonna Taylor was murdered in her home. She had a life left to live. She did not get to live it.

I did not personally know Breonna Taylor. Other than being a person of color myself, I have nothing else to say in terms of what we had in common. But I do know she wanted to be a nurse. I am a nurse, and I can honestly say nurse friendships run deep. When we lose one of our own, we mourn heavily. She should have been one of us. She WOULD have been one of us.

Many people in this country have not had the pleasure of having a diverse environment as they grew up. Many people have not had the wonderful experience of being uplifted by black women, protected by black women, or being surrounded by their love. But I have. Black girl magic is real. And Breonna Taylor had her magic taken too soon from this world.

She once studied at the University of Kentucky. As she was one of their former students, I am asking the School of Nursing at the University of Kentucky to honor her with a posthumous RN degree. She may not have been actively pursuing it at the time of her death, but she had dreams, like all nurses once did when we were students. Please take the time to sign this petition, so that we can send it to her alma mater. Black lives matter. She mattered. And she deserved to achieve her dreams, she still deserves to achieve that dream. Can we help her? Please
