TRIGGER WARNING// suicide

A suicide took place this past week in one of the residence halls on campus and the university refuses to make a statement, claiming that “multiple students commit suicide each year,” as if part of the issue isn’t a result of the system itself. A majority of the student body is finding out about this tragic incident through social media such as Twitter and Reddit. This is unacceptable. The university must bring attention to deaths that take place on campus and must inform their students and staff about the incident as well. The university continues to underfund and understaff the counseling center and sweep deaths by suicide under the rug. The university must enhance their efforts to genuinely care for and support students who are extremely, psychologically affected by the pandemic and the overwhelmingness of college in general. CHANGE MUST BE MADE NOW.
