The Local Herbivores and our supporters urge University of Idaho to close down the Vandal Brand Meats slaughterhouse.
Vandal Brand Meats has a slaughterhouse, or "Meat Science Laboratory," located on the Moscow, Idaho, USA University of Idaho campus.
According to University of Idaho: "The purpose of Vandal Brand Meats is to provide a sales outlet to sell the meat products generated by these activities ["teaching, research and public service activities"]. These sales help compensate for the cost of the livestock, supplies, student labor and maintenance of the facilities."
Vandal Brand Meats slaughters cows, pigs, lambs, and occasionally chickens. These animals are bred only with the intention of eventual slaughter; whether they are are animals raised on the university feedlots, or raised on a local farm. Many of these individuals are exploited their entire lives. Cows on the University of Idaho campus are often tested on, or even cannulated, in the name of "education" or "research." These individuals, after a life of exploitation, are sent for slaughter at a fraction of their natural lifespan.
University of Idaho is choosing profit over the lives of animals who deserve a right to a life free of exploitation, abuse, and slaughter. The tuition of students helps fund the cruel practices of Vandal Brand Meats and University of Idaho's Department of Agriculture. There are many community members, and specifically students, who do not support the cruel acts that University of Idaho funds.
We urge you to no longer support or fund animal cruelty on the University of Idaho campus and to shut down the Vandal Brand Meats slaughterhouse.
