Dear Graduate Student Community and Supporters,
We are writing to you today to emphasize the critical importance of graduate housing and to urge you to participate in the ongoing Graduate Housing Survey. Your input is essential in advocating for the preservation, renovation, or rebuilding of our graduate housing facilities.
As graduate students, we understand the unique challenges of pursuing advanced degrees. Affordable and accessible housing is not a luxury, but a fundamental necessity for our academic success and well-being.
Please note that anyone with a UF login can participate in the survey.
The current state of our graduate housing often presents significant issues, including:
• Limited availability: The scarcity of graduate housing forces many students to seek accommodations off-campus, often at significantly higher costs and with longer commutes.
• Lack of Transparency:
UF has several outdated rules that make it difficult for students seeking affordable such as not allowing roommates.
The Graduate Housing Survey is our opportunity to collectively voice these concerns and demonstrate the urgent need for action. By participating, you are directly contributing to the data that will be used to:
• Present a compelling case to university administration: Your responses will provide concrete evidence of the housing challenges faced by graduate students.
• Secure funding for improvements: A strong showing of need will strengthen our arguments for increased investment in graduate housing to rebuild or renovate buildings like Maguire Village and UVS.
What we need from you:
1. Complete the Graduate Housing Survey: Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share your experiences and concerns by Friday, April 11. Your honest feedback is invaluable.
In the additional comments section we urge you to consider the following:
The University of Florida is moving forward with a plan that will destroy 348 units (Maguire Village and UVS) of affordable housing on campus, primarily impacting vulnerable, low-income graduate students, many of whom are international students with families, who rely on this housing.
2. Share the Survey: Encourage your fellow graduate students to participate. The more responses we gather, the stronger our collective voice will be.
3. Spread Awareness: Use social media, student forums, and other platforms to raise awareness about the importance of graduate housing. Follow us on instagram for more updates.
