I have got a lot of feedback about how controversial of an issue this is. I get it, last time we had UCPD and CPD work on this level. Sam DuBose was murdered. So going back to a similar system is scary for a lot of folks. I get that. However, the campus has changed SIGNIFICANTLY since DuBose was shot. I personally do not think UCPD should be conducting traffic stops. But they should respond to the areas that are heavily populated with students. It is all about a balance being found. UCPD and CPD also have not asked those working in the buildings for any feedback when trying to create a memorandum. As UC continues to buy out privately owned buildings the issue will only get worse as students are not getting the support they need (and the support they are promised by UC officials). Change is needed now. Please help me share this so I can "light some fire" under some people in positions that can make a bigger change.
