Petition updateAddress the economic burdens imposed on students by the new UofC Storage PolicyVictory! UChicago students may store items under 2015 guidelines

Due to the hard work of many groups on campus, we have done it! Students will be able to store items under the previous storage policy. However, our work does not stop here. We will need to push that the university always take in consideration the financial burden of any change in policy and we will work to make sure voices of students and families from diverse economic situations are heard. Below is the email we received from Residential Services regarding the storage policy.
Greetings Residents,
College Housing & Residential Services periodically reviews programs and policies to ensure they are successfully serving our students as intended. In recent years, we have seen increased demand for the Trunk Room program, which is a valuable on-campus resource that we want to ensure provides an opportunity to store items to as many students as possible. The program was recently evaluated and changes were recommended; however, after receiving additional feedback, we will continue to review the policies and procedures related to the trunk rooms.
With this feedback in mind, the 2015 Trunk Room guidelines will remain in effect until further notice.
As a reminder, the guidelines are excerpted below:
· Five boxes are permitted per student per year.
· One of the five boxes can be exchanged for a micro-fridge or cubic refrigerator. The unit must be completely defrosted, clean and dry before being delivered to the Trunk Room.
· All items must be stored in a box, bin or trunk (except a micro-fridge or cubic refrigerator).
· Bikes and furniture cannot be stored in the Trunk Room.
· All boxes, bins, luggage or trunks must be properly labeled and tagged in order to be stored.
The full Trunk Room storage policy can be viewed online at: http://housing.uchicago.edu/services_policies/guide_to_day_to_day_living/.
Should you have questions or need additional information about the Trunk Room storage program, please contact your Residence Hall Manager.
Thank you,
Dominic Petruzzelli
