The Issue

"Effective immediately, UB’s main campus and the Waterbury Center will conduct all classes through virtual instruction methods for the remainder of the semester. All UB policies are still in effect in the virtual classroom. Specific concerns should be addressed to your faculty advisor, clinical coordinator, school director, or dean. Students who would like additional advising services should reach out to Academic Advising Services in the Heckman Center for The Bridgeport Plan."

Due to the unfortunate COVID-19 all in class courses were moved to online classes for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester. Students were forced to move off campus leaving some students with nowhere to go. Most athletics, off-campus clinicals, SIM labs, and activities were canceled for the remainder of the semester.
The campus charges students for several fees including a General Fee which as stated on the official website includes” student services not covered by tuition such as library services, online library access, computer technology, computer labs, and on-campus accident liability insurance”.  Unfortunately, since no one is campus it is unfair that the university should account for the money for resources not being used at the moment.

The Student government fee as stated supports “student clubs and organizations, artists and entertainment for the campus, intercollegiate athletics, and additional services that support students outside the classroom.” Which are also events not happening due to the University closing.
Nursing students and all other students who require clinicals or in lab simulations are demanded to pay a “clinical” or “lab” fee which will not be used for the remainder of the semester.

Students who had planned to live on campus and purchased meal plans should also be partially refunded.

We as student understand that the University is making all possible changes and resources available for all students. It is unfortunate that the resources provided including on campus printing and Wi-Fi services are out of reach from all students at the moment. It is now all at our cost to ensure that each student has a computer and internet access at home.

With this being said, we as students of the University of Bridgeport want to advocate for partial refunds including housing, dinning, and fees that will no longer be used.
Thank you.
