We stand together supporting the staff members at the University of Bath and the UCU striking against the unfair decisions that Universities UK are currently trying to push forward. However, losing 14 days worth of lectures as a consequence of Universities UK reducing retirement benefits as part of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) Pension Reform for lecturing staff and academics is directly impacting our education.
Academics are not only crucial in enhancing our knowledge educating us, but also provide pastoral care and support through schemes such as personal tutors which highly benefit the University of Bath.
We have a contract with the University of Bath and 14 days of strikes is equivalent to £420 (for EWP Students) of our annual tuition fees being wasted, with coursework and assignments due during these four weeks how are we expected to perform to the best of our abilities without academics available to teach us?
We want to learn, just the same as lecturers want to teach, but without the security of knowing they will receive a liveable pension means that staff will leave. The decisions being made by Universities UK are directly impacting our education and our future, not just the teaching staff.
