University of Arizona Downsize UAPD

University of Arizona Downsize UAPD
The Issue
The University of Arizona Police Department now has almost 70 armed police officers on the small campus of the U of A (for comparison, are only 29 CAPS counselors). These officers are, except in a few cases, an unwelcome presence for many and the size of the force is now too big to be justified.
In light of the recent protests around unjust policing and police brutality, we are demanding that the UA downsize and defund its police force and instead invest in things that benefit the UA community, such as counselors. Downsizing the UAPD by just 40% would allow CAPS to almost double its amount of counselors or offer counseling at a reduced rate to those who need it.
