Because our students (and especially our female, LGBTQ, and Muslim students) are assaulted on almost a daily basis by "brother" Dean Saxton's horrendous hate speeches and physical acts of violence (i.e., spitting on someone).
The University of Arizona's Code of Conduct stands in direct opposition to the speech and actions of brother Dean according to their own philosophy:
"The aim of education is the intellectual, personal, social, and ethical development of the individual. The educational process is ideally conducted in an environment that encourages reasoned discourse, intellectual honesty, openness to constructive change, and respect for the rights of all individuals. Self -discipline and a respect for the rights of others in the university community are necessary for the fulfillment of such goals. The Student Code of Conduct is designed to promote this environment at each of the state universities...Students who violate these standards will be subject to disciplinary sanctions in order to promote their own personal development, to protect the university community, and to maintain order and stability on campus"
Although the Dean of Students has received dozens and dozens of complaints from students who have been individually affected by Dean's hateful rhetoric, the University has done nothing. As students of the University, and as members of a community who deserve respect, we cannot stand for this! Let's tell the University: you must reprimand Dean Saxton for his horrific display of hatred in general, and especially for his actions on Tuesday, April 23rd leading up to Take Back the Night.
