Junnis Hugger started this petition to University of Arizona board of education and

Currently, there is little educational resources and acknowledgment of synthetic biology at the University of Arizona. In a report by Synbiobeta, 98 synthetic biology companies produced $3.8 Billion in investments during the 2018 year alone. With early 2000 startups becoming million dollar companies such as Ginkgo Bioworks ($4.3B), Impossible Foods ($300M), and Twist Biosciences ($84M) there is an increasing need for biological engineers. This petition was created to allow student the opportunity to develop their set of skills for a field that is reconstructing our concept of interacting with biology.

Wondering what is Synthetic Biology?

Synthetic Biology is an emerging field that represents the growth in our understanding of biology. As an interdisciplinary field, synthetic biologist seek to combine various techniques from biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and several others to construct unprecedented biological parts and systems. In practice, synthetic biology could be utilized to recreate extinct pathways or build new organisms entirely.   To learn more about it we need more resources at the University of Arizona. If you are interested or would like to talk more about synthetic biology contact junnishugger@email.arizona.edu or be on the look out for UA’s  first Synthetic Biology Club in 2020!
