Increase support for adjuncts and other non-tenure track faculty

Increase support for adjuncts and other non-tenure track faculty
The Issue
In light of repeated budget cuts, rising tuition, and the increasing corporatization of the University of Arizona, we are concerned about the state of higher education in Arizona.
-> Right now, only 24% of the UA’s revenue is spent on instruction, an 8% decline since 2003. At the same time, the UA receives far less state support than our ABOR peer institutions.
-> Over 40% of UA’s teaching faculty is non-tenure track. Adjuncts and other NTT faculty work for low pay, with minimal resources and little job security. Many teach elsewhere or work other part-time jobs to make ends meet.
-> Due to the direct link between faculty working conditions and student learning outcomes, we ask the university to recommit to education and give non-tenure track faculty the wages and recognition they deserve.
-> To meet the UA’s educational goals, UA non-tenure track faculty need multi-year contracts and transparent paths to promotion, as well as reduced class sizes and equitable salaries in line with our ABOR peer institutions. These objectives serve students.
We invite faculty, staff, administration, students, and community members to join us in calling for reinvestment in education at the University of Arizona.
Please sign this petition if you value your non-tenure track faculty!
Sincerely,
Concerned and Committed NTT Faculty, The University of Arizona
