The community in and around Lancaster must have an A&E department considering the size of the catchment area and the amount of people who depend on this unit. It is also important that the A&E department stays otherwise other vital services may also be lost to other hospitals in the area and this could have a major effect on the health care of people in and around Lancaster.
Does the UHMB believe that it is appropriate for people to travel over an hour to seek emergency medical treatment. Does the UHMB have sufficient ambulances and staff to keep driving patients all the way to Preston and or Kendal, who do not actually have an A&E at the moment. With the amount of distance involved getting emergency getting patients to relevant location will this mean higher response times and potentially risking the lives of people.
