Enact responsible inclement weather policy

UB has been infamous for attempting to make a point of always staying open no matter the weather. The students (to be referred to henceforth as "we") have dealt with this for some time now. We are aware that Buffalo has bad weather. We are aware that the plows succeed sometimes at making transit possible. We are aware that an alleged "majority" of students can make it to class sometimes. However, we ALL pay tuition which INCLUDES A TRANSPORTATION FEE. If the University At Buffalo cannot reasonably provide adequate transport for all students attempting to utilize the bus system due to inclement weather, then classes should be cancelled until there comes a time when the transportation is again sufficient. This can quite simply be done by using a emergency text message system to alert students in real-time of closures, and by simply preemptively putting out a potential closure warning in the case of a forecasted snow storm. This can be done reasonably, and it will not have adverse affects on the curriculum as supplementary notes/assignments can quite simply be posted to blackboard or by another means. It is a simple fix that improves the character of this institution as well as addresses a problem with which many are forced to deal with. Please take this seriously, as this type of weather and the amount of time people stood outside in it is a tangible burden to student health. Thank you.
