Re-Open Unity Hall
Re-Open Unity Hall
In mid march of this year our beloved meeting hall was abruptly closed down. Our board members acted out of a well intentioned abundance of caution, but misinterpreted state & county stay-at-home orders issued in connection with the COVID19 crisis.
Since that time major clarifications have been issued by the state and county public health agencies regarding the ability, and indeed the necessity, for essential services to remain open. Behavioral & mental health services, specifically including substance abuse treatments such as AA, NA, and other group counseling meetings have been specified as "essential services" and are listed as sectors which are considered critical to the continuity of everyday operations in our state and are therefore "EXEMPT" from the current COVID19 stay-at-home orders by the county, the state, and even directly referenced by governor Newsom himself during COVID19 press breifings.
Additionally, Riverside County has removed mandatory face mask and social distancing requirements as of Friday May 8th.
We all consider Unity Hall our second home, and have continued to support its existence through our 7th tradition contributions despite its closure. We understand the call to close the doors was made out of an abundance of caution during the uncertain beginning phases of this situation. However, the orders have been clarified beyond any doubt to specify that we "CAN and SHOULD" be open to provide the meetings which are so vital to alcoholic's sobriety. As long time members, and newcomers alike we are asking that OUR voices be heard by the "trusted servants" we elected, and that the Hall be reopened for in person meetings, with observances made for additional sanitation precautions such as wiping down tables and chairs prior to meetings, & possibly social distancing such as 6ft between chairs and a requirement that face coverings be worn.
We understand that opening attendance to board meetings to all members of Unity Hall can make for a long and hectic board meeting. By signing this petition, and adding whether you would personally attend in person meetings upon opening, as well as any additional comments regarding reopening the hall in the comments section, we can provide the board with a streamlined and centralized way of hearing our voices.
In accordance with Tradition 12 which states "Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions..." we are committed to respecting your anonymity, and copies of this petition will only be provided directly to the unity hall board. Any identifying information will not be used for any other purposes and your signing of this petition will not be disclosed except to the Unity Hall board. Thank you friends! Let's help some alcoholics stay sober so we can too!
