USATF Let Nick Symmonds Run

Nick Symmonds is an 800m runner and recently won the USATF (United States Track and Field) Championship for the distance. This earned him a spot on Team USA this summer at World's. In 2013, Nick won Silver at World's in Moscow. Since earning his Silver Medal, he has spent the past two years making countless sacrifices and training to get back to the biggest stage of track and field. Nick would like to compete at the IAAF World Championships this year and win another medal for his country. Unfortunately, USATF has left Nick off of the team that he qualified for.
The reason this happened is that Nick refused to sign USATF's Statement of Conditions which read. A letter Nick received from USATF read:
"It is your responsibility to bring your entire Team USA uniform. Additionally, you are required to wear the Nike Team USA apparel…at all team functions throughout the trip, including at the athlete hotel, during training, press conferences, competition, and award ceremonies. Accordingly, please pack ONLY Team USA, Nike or non-branded apparel and be sure to bring your Team USA gear."
As a Brooks athlete, Nick would like to continue to support a company that supports him. He simply asked for USATF to work with him to rewrite the language of their Statement of Conditions agreement and to clearly define what a team function is. Nick is more than happy to wear his Team USA uniform with pride while racing but it is unclear why he must be restricted as to what he can and cannot wear at other times on this trip. We ask that Nick be allowed to meet with USATF to reword the agreement to protect athletes in years to come and to make their rights as athletes known. We also encourage other athletes to stand with Nick and support his efforts to bring transparency to our sport. If we stand in solidarity with Nick, we will help all athletes have the freedom to promote their personal sponsors while running for their country and chasing their dreams.
We are asking USATF to meet with Nick Symmonds to change the language in their Statement of Conditions and for Nick to be reinstated on the Men's 800m team.
