On this platform, Change.org, animal abuse is a very popular topic. I understand that people have a sensitivity to creatures that they see as "innocent", but as I surf this site, I never really see any real solutions to end it, and to stop it from developing into further things. All I see is rage and hate, but no realistic solutions. What occurs nowadays in our justice system, is one of three things. It is ignored, the person gets off with probation, or they get some jail time, and are out in a short amount of time, with the same feelings they had when they entered. This needs to stop. If you care about animals, and if you care about people, than you should realize that what these people need is psychological treatment. 40% of children from the age of 8-15 who abused animals, have gone on to commit violent crimes against people, and 44% of all animal abusers of the same age range have killed themselves later in their life. Those numbers are astonishing. I've seen countless petitions on this website, calling for animal abusers to be tortured and killed, and really, it makes no sense.

Second of all, even if you are a believer in capital punishment, the truth is, killing an animal is not the same thing as killing a person, no matter what you believe, you understand that people and animals are not the same. As sad as losing a pet may be, for most of us, it is not the same as losing a loved one, therefore no matter what you believe it makes NO sense to kill a human for the killing/abusing an animal.

I believe that sentencing people who have abused animals to treatment, is what is best for the person, and people and animals who they will potentially hurt in the future. This is common sense. The reason this isn't taken into place, is because the government sees animals as property, and these people are charged as though they harmed property, and animal cruelty laws are minor. The other problem is that people who protest it, are protesting for there to be harsher laws for animal abusers and nothing else. THIS NEEDS TO END. These people need help, before it gets worse, and even if you don't care about them, you need to realize, that the only way that animal abuse will end, and that people will be at a lower risk of being attacked, is treatment for these people.
