Bans off our Bodies

Bans off our Bodies
Main Example of this Issue:
Texas Abortion Law:
The Texas abortion law bans abortions after a heartbeat can be detected in an embryo at around the sixth week of a pregnancy, a time at which many pregnant people are unaware of their pregnancy. The law makes no exceptions for rape or incest, and has very narrow exceptions if the pregnancy could jeopardize the life of the pregnant person.
Result:
Regardless of whether or not it is legal, people who are desperate for an abortion will find a way to receive one. This can end up endangering their lives as they may receive an unauthorized abortion that is not done by a medical professional.
No one has the right to dictate others’ lives or bodies. People are going through different stages in their lives and have different circumstances. Abortion is a right that every person with a uterus should have the option of. The Texas abortion law takes away basic rights and perpetuates the stigma around abortion.
Tying all of this back to Canada, we need to hold our government accountable and ensure this never happens in Canada, continuing the education on abortion.
