On September 5th, Donald Trump and his administration announced the termination of the Obama Administration's DACA program. Current recipients of DACA will retain their period of deferred action and Employment Authorization Document until they expire. Those who were interested and eligible for applying to DACA but did not request initial DACA on or before September 5, 2017 will not be considered. Recipients whose DACA expired on or before Sept. 4, 2017, and did not properly file their renewal request on or before Sept. 5, 2017 are also no longer eligible. The livelihood and security of these law-abiding and highly valued immigrants should not be a political debate, it should be common sense. They are our neighbors, our friends, our students, our classmates, our workers, our family. They should not have to fear for their futures and live in a perpetual state of chaotic uncertainty. Our divided nation continues to tear itself apart from within, and this situation only serves to catalyze further disunity. Whether you support or oppose Donald Trump, are Republican or Democrat (or somewhere in-between), I ask that you consider further supporting this cause by getting at least one additional person to read through it and hopefully sign it. Spread the word that 800,000+ immigrants are in danger of losing all of the progress that they have made.
