Stop Denying Families Access to their Hopitalized Loved Ones!
The Issue
My name is Elizabeth Angel and I am starting this petition because of the inhuman rule of not allowing a family member to be with their loved ones in a hospital. I realize in these dangerous times it is important that our healthcare workers keep their patients safe, however, while keeping them safe is also our priority we are forgetting about the mental anguish that comes from not knowing exactly what is happening to our loved ones who are in these hospitals.
On April 19, 2020 my father was on his way to visit my uncle when he was in a nearly fatal car crash, suffering a fractured neck and spine he was flown to Chandler Regional were he was put on life support and in critical condition. Our family has had no contact with him except for one face time and my step-mother speaking to him on the phone. Since my father can not talk because he now has a trech in his throat it has been extremely difficult to not only sit quietly waiting for news but also to hear the stories of so many who are going through the same things.
We are not asking for a full open of hospitals as we understand the need to keep the patients safe from this dangerous disease sweeping through our country, but we are asking that hospitals allow one individual who is tested and cleared completely to go be with their loved ones. We do not believe it is to much to ask to let us attend our loved ones whether they are taking their last breath or fighting for their lives.
Family is so important and it is very important in the healing process, we are respectfully asking that the hospitals and the government find a way to allow mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters the opportunity to be with their loved ones while they are in the hospital whether it is for their death or to just provide the comfort of having a family member there.
I know speaking for myself I am willing to do what ever it is required of me so that I may be with my dad, so he can know that his family is here waiting for him to come home. Test us, tell us to shave our heads, scrub us down and make us wear hazmat suits, we will do it if we can be with our loved ones. Please Please give us the ability to have ONE member of our families be there with our loved ones, it has been a nightmare enhanced by the sheer fear of not knowing what is going to happen to them, it is in humane to expect families to be completely cut off from their loved ones for so much time.
Thank you
