Pass (SAFE Act) HR3355 to end export of Horses to Slaughter in Mexico and Canada
Why this petition matters

Tens of Thousands of horses are transported to Mexico and Canada for Slaughter each year from the United States. These animals are purchased by "kill buyers" at auctions and from individuals and resold for slaughter at a large profit. Many of these animals were healthy and usable prior to entering the Slaughter pipeline. Once in the hands of the kill buyers, horses are tortured, forced into overcrowded pens without food and water for long periods of time. The weaker die from starvation, dehydration or other injuries. They are then transported in trucks so crowded that many die of asphyxiation and crush injuries. Those who survive and cross the border are met with the most brutal and torturous deaths imaginable.
HR 3355 is a bipartisan bill now working it's way through congress. The bill would ban transport of horses to slaughter for human consumption (yes, you read that right) in other countries and thereby shutting down the very lucrative kill pen and export businesses. This action would then force us, as animal lovers to explore other options, such as rescue or euthanasia for horses who have lived their lives in the service to man but are now no longer considered useful by the humans they served.
