The new developments at Morabito - Burke and Senne Glick across the street from the San Luis Obispo Airport receives wastewater and recycled water treatment which can leave behind radioactive material and other toxic contaminants that can be dangerous to people and wildlife. In December 2015, cancer causing chemicals were found in the SLO water wells. A property owner complained of chemical smells and The SLO County Health Department found the contaminated water of TCE and etc in the water wells. Employees at local businesses were told to NOT drink the water for 7 years prior to this event and today it has been 9 years now and people still bring their water bottles to work. Because of the ongoing contamination at the tank farm oil spill and an explosive fire a century ago. A local merchant bought a portion of the property on or near tank farm road land in the 1970's and discovered crude oil, diesel, and gasoline oil under his property in 1988. The court case called ( Holdgrafter v. Unocal Corp) Mr. Holdgrafer sued for water and land contamination issues and lack of disclosure and was awarded $10 million dollars in a contamination lawsuit. In the last 19 years Unocal has paid out more than $100 million dollars for oil leaks in Central California beginning at Avila Beach, Guadalupe Dunes and San Luis Obispo tank farm land. I learned today that the wastewater and recycled water is exempted from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act. Yet, that land near the Airport is spayed with this water and is 1/2 miles away from the tank farm road land that is currently contaminated. The hard hit areas that have cancer causing chemicals is near Morabito – Burke and Senne Glick and the SLO Airport on Buckley Road, Davenport Creek Road, Evans Road and Thread Lane. In closing, I fear for the students that attend Sinsheime, Los Ranchos, Montessori Children's, Liberty Christian and Hawthorne Schools. If anyone remembers the 99th Street School in Niagara Falls, New York. The contaminated school in the Love Canal neighborhood. This massive environmental disaster that affected the health of hundreds of school children and parents in New York, is now in our own backyard. One can further conclude that mixing water and chemicals together and you will get a nightmare with a complete disaster on your hands. I pray that is not the case here in the foreshortened future at these school sites. We may never know the details of this particular scenario until all the land and water is tested at these school sites. The Fiero Lane Water Company and California Regional Water Quality Control Board will have to answer to punitive damages and dissimilar, desist and refrain orders and any real estate violations to the folks in that area of San Luis Obispo near the airport and surrounding areas. Below is the quotation on the exemption law: ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY: Waste Discharge and Water Recycling Requirements for this discharge are exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (Public Resources Code Section 21100, et. seq.), in accordance with Section 13389 of the California Water Code. (unreal) If there is poor management due to lack of compliance and violations and it is proven to be hazards to live near these treatment centers in San Luis Obispo County. It can be near impossible to demand change if our health is at risk from airborne hazards, intense chemical odor, flood of sewage, pest control, violation of clean air act, violations of water act, violations of hazardous waste regulations, and violations of safety measures and safety education. With this law in effect we are NOT able to alert the managers and demand that they correct any problems. (unreal) This law needs to change and the first step toward change is awareness and the second is acceptances to NOT allow people to live on the Tank Farm Road Land and Morabito - Burke and Senne Glick area.
