Stop the use of hazardous chemicals in our lakes. Encourage, develop and fund non-chemical, environmentally friendly treatment techniques for invasive species in our freshwater lakes

The Issue

Currently a wide variety of potentially hazardous chemicals, including aggressive herbicides with the active ingredient Triclopyr, (which has shown in laboratory tests to have caused an increase in incidence of cancer and reproductive abnormalities) are being used to reduce populations of invasive species, including Eurasian Water Milfoil.

Despite the growing evidence that there are environmentally friendly treatment techniques available, the practice of adding massive amounts of toxic chemicals continues in fresh water lakes throughout the United States.

The long term environmental effects of these chemicals are just now being documented and their use must be reduced or eliminated if our lakes are to be restored to healthy balanced eco-systems.

We believe that natural, environmentally friendly alternatives need to be given the highest priority  for use in public waters. Organizations that are pursuing these alternatives need to be supported.

The Lake Saint Catherine Conservation Fund, Inc.  is a 501 c3 non profit organization dedicated to the study and implementation of these environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives.
