Fair Rates For Independent Motor Carriers And Owner Operators

Fair Rates For Independent Motor Carriers And Owner Operators

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are concerned Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators that are urging our leaders to take immediately action to stop the abuse of power freight brokerages are implementing on the transportation industry.

Currently, there is not a fair payment standard or structure available to Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators to adhere to. This inconsistency in the industry provides an open market for brokerages to operate with impunity to take more than their fair share of profits from Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators. In certain areas of the country, brokerages are unceasingly taking over 50% of the load payout shippers pay for Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators to haul their goods. Moreover, we do not have to any recourse available to combat these problems, which is why we need your assistance in our demands for fair load pay rates.

Nonetheless, the transportation industry is being naively manipulated and controlled by brokerages that operate only for their own self interest. In order to meet their goals of high profits, brokerages are implementing unethical and unfair business practices that are putting Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators out of business. Thriving off of greed, we have seen corruption from those in positions of authority abuse their powers. Undoubtedly, by implementing our demands for fair load pay rates we strive to create a balanced market of growth and development for Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators.

Altogether, we are requesting are political leaders to set forth a minimum requirement on brokerages to pay all charges and fees brokerages are implementing on their customers, which are in direct accordance to the movement of a particular load to be paid to the contracting small independent motor carrier or owner operator rightfully and respectfully as listed below.

  1. 100% of line haul payment
  2. 100% of detention payment
  3. 100% of fuel surcharge
  4. 100% of all accessorial charges

Furthermore, brokerages should receive payment from their customers "shippers and receivers"  based on the brokerage fee they charge their customer to bridge the gap between shipper and carrier.

We would also ask that you conduct an investigative financial audit on freight brokerages from the past three years, to show the pay disparities and unethical payments made to small independent motor carriers and owner operators. In some instances, the low pay rates received should be categorized as criminal and illegal. Your support and ability to make these changes are needed to break the monopoly brokers have created, and would facilitate our goal for a balanced market of growth and development for Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators.

Immediate action needs to be taken to keep supply chains operating at full capacity now and for the future of the transportation industry. If actions are not taken, thousands of Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators will be forced out of business. This will create a drastic decline in available trucks to move goods, which is critical for the nations economy, its workers and the American consumer.  Above all, were expecting you to step up to the plate to create a better industry for American Small Independent Motor Carriers and Owner Operators.
