I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Job Corps program; however I have noticed that the amount students get paid biweekly isn’t sustainable due to the price of items exceedingly rising in stores which is due to the changes in our cost of living and there are things we need that Job Corps doesn’t accommodate to us like: jackets, shoes, toiletries, hair care products, etc.So I am asking that

    We receive 50 dollars biweekly. There has been a change in the cost of living and students can’t afford their living expenses that Job corps can’t accommodate. Plus we would like to create the same budgeting opportunities that existed decades before because there are many students who need assistance transitioning after Job corps and they can’t properly transition if they are constantly spending more money than they make due to the low stipend that has been set in place for the last 50 years

     That we are issued 2 jackets with our uniforms preferably one LIGHT JACKET  and one WINTER COAT. The weather is ever changing and we have had to walk in extremely hazardous weather. Many students do not have jackets and if we can provide students with jackets we can reduce illness on campus and increase productivity.

       And lastly I ask that all students in human services and medical pathways receive an optional pair of walking shoes to wear with their uniforms to prevent all students from having to damage their own shoes. We walk extremely lengthy distances to trade and wear out our shoes a lot faster than the average person would but have a much harder time replacing footwear due to the lack of funds that we receive. 
        There are more expectations now more than ever for Job corps students and I fully believe that the very least the center can do is accommodate all the students needs to ensure that students have every tool they need to succeed in a fast changing environment such as job corps. No student should have to worry about any barriers stopping them from obtaining their education and the items listed above are all huge barriers I have noticed and hope that can be addressed so that this program can possibly have better results.
