Hold the Line for Justice 

We call on Mike Wood and his staff to “Hold the Line” for Justice by remembering the objectives and ethical virtues he and others promised before the election.  We applaud the good work Mike Wood has done since he was elected. He has done a tremendous job of cleaning up the absolute mess that Leah Wommack Chaney and her associates left the prosecutors office in.  However, When an army is under attack the solider is advised to hold the line.  Our civil rights have been and still are under attack in Lincoln County and we are asking Mr. Wood to hold the line by maintaining his principles and integrity against the inbred entitled people in the judiciary, the Lincoln Sheriff’s Department, and against the Division of Family Services and Rod Barnhill in the juvenile office:  We ask that you keep moving forward on your campaign promises by doing the following six things:

1)    Reopen the Murder Case of Betsy Faria.  Russ Faria was not the killer. The real killer(s) need to be held accountable as do those who rigged the case;

2)    We call for a full investigation of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the former Lincoln County Prosecutors office as to why Russ Faria was framed for murder and what can be changed to prevent this from happening in the future;

3)    We call for a Conviction Integrity Unit to review all of Lincoln Counties Crazy Cases. Whereby anyone, who has been questionably or wrongfully convicted there, can request a review of the files, and the office will set aside the case where it is shown that the case was completely insane, rigged or false.  We request that careful attention be taken in regard to Rod Barnhill’s multitude of ( highest in the state according to news releases) alleged child abuse cases. We also request that the Prosecutors office take whatever steps that can be taken to force Rod Barnhill out of his position.  We are concerned about his destroying of families for grossly exaggerated over- criminalized normal family actions. We are also concerned about Barnhill’s systematic alienation of parents from their children. Leah Wommack Chaney, DFS and Rod Barnhill’s long history of lies, exaggerations and manipulations with a alleged “victims” is  well-known. For at least 30 years Lincoln County has suffered the consequences of the failed War on Drugs, criminalization of poverty and exaggerated policing and decision making with regards to children and families. These policies and decisions left us with countless cases in need of review. Any proposed conviction integrity unit should function independently of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, possess adequate resources and be staffed by someone with a background in defense litigation and should be modeled after the successful conviction integrity units from around the country with measurable successes.  We ask for an opportunity to vet policies for the conviction integrity unit and for the Lincoln County Prosecutor to share a metric with the community for its success including how many cases have been reviewed and how many have been set aside;

4)     Publicly articulating a written policy for utilization of surveillance technologies possessed by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. What we learned from Sheriff Cottle’s and others depositions is that the people of Lincoln County are being spied upon with electronic eavesdropping equipment including Stingray, Celebrite and other technologies. That Sheriff Cottle unlike Sheriff’s in neighboring communities is exercising no supervision of those technologies. That they are being used to spy on ex-spouses, political rivals and critics of Lincoln County Corruption in violation of the United States Constitution. We encourage Mr. Wood to lock up this equipment in the prosecutor’s office and require a warrant by a reputable judge (Not Judge Beck) or consent by the party involved for its use, we encourage Mike Wood to use the United States Constitution as a road map and not a hindrance in regards to use of electronic surveillance;

5)    Independent Audit and Transparency: Engage an independent auditor to review the financial records of the former prosecutor for fraud, waste and abuse. Much has been said about financial abuses of the taxpayer funds by the former prosecutor.  The Citizens of Lincoln County deserve to know where their money went and for what. We encourage Mr. Wood to engage an independent, CPA Firm from outside the county or state to review these financial records so the corresponding audit can be relied upon and to publicly release the findings of said audit;

6)    Bail Reform: Lastly We are calling on Mr. Wood to support the movement to end unjust cash bail. Unjust cash bail policies contribute to the mass incarceration of the poor, By keeping them in jail because they are too poor to pay bail.  We will look to you to reform our bail system both by speaking out in Lincoln County and in our state capitol. We are asking Mr. Wood to develop a plan to replace bail with proven tactics to ensure individuals appear in court without deprivation of their civil liberties.  Those alternatives include electronic reminders of court dates, outreach and the speedy resolution of trials. They do not include for profit electronic monitoring, for profit drug testing, for profit probation and racially biased risk assessments. We would also like a review of Rise Up Probation the  entity that was brought in by the former Lincoln County Prosecutor and Judge Jim Beck which has a remarkably similar name to Leah Wommack Chaney’s supposed charity Rise Above Scholarships. We believe it is in the interest of the county to return to a system supervised by the state court authorities instead of a local individual connected with Leah Wommack Chaney with no independent supervision or oversight.

In Summary, Mr. Wood we know you have not been there long and are still trying to clean up the mess of your predecessors.  We know you have accomplished some great things already. Please know we are all here to back you in the future and we want to help propel you on to bigger and better things. Gods speed as you restore confidence and integrity to the Lincoln County Courts and Prosecutors office!
