Calling For The Reopening of the Emmett Till Murder Case

This petition had 659 supporters

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with the efforts led by Jaribu Hill and the Mississippi Workers Center. As concerned members of the community, who are dedicated to the cause of justice and to an end to racial hatred, we call upon the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch a new investigation into the death of Emmett Louis Till, a 14-year old African American child who was abducted and murdered in 1955 in Money, Mississippi by Roy Bryant, J.W. Milam and others.

It is now common knowledge that more than 10 years ago, Carolyn Bryant, wife of Roy Bryant, one of the white males who allegedly murdered Till, recanted key parts of her testimony and admitted she lied when she said Emmett Till grabbed and threatened her. Because it is widely believed that Bryant's fabricated testimony is what fanned the flames of hatred and led to Till's abduction and brutal murder, it is imperative that a new grand jury be convened to determine whether Carolyn Bryant aided in the kidnapping of Emmett Till and provided false testimony that led to his death.
