SAY NO TO GOVERNMENT PESTICIDE SPRAY!

The Issue

I reside in southern Louisiana. My city sprays harmful chemicals approved by the US EPA to control mosquito population using military planes, and fogger trucks. These chemicals have caused severe damage to my health. I am now deathly allergic to pesticides after a careless, close encounter with a fogging truck. Now anytime I come in contact with pesticide I go into convulsive seizures, and occasionally a coma. I can not go outside when they spray, and have to run frantically to turn off my air conditioner when they pass so it doesn't get sucked into my home. It is life-threatening to me. I have to take medication for the rest of my life to control the epilepsy it has caused. It's affected my entire life to the point where I can hardly drive, or function to work a normal hourly job. It has destroyed my career, and independence. They laugh and tell me it's harmless. If you want to stop them from spraying around your home you have to create a neighborhood petition. Kind of hard to create a neighborhood petition when you can't go around the neighborhood because of your health, not even counting worrying about who sprayed what around their homes. So, If I'm going to petition to fight against this, I am going to do it for the entire United States, and not just where I live.

Specifically they use a chemical named CSI 30+30, and another chemical named ANVIL 10-10. These products are rotated throughout the season to help prevent tolerance build-up in the mosquito population here according to city government.

I have found the labels for these chemicals. You can view them here:

These sprays are known as "Pyrethroids". I have done some extensive internet research over a few years. Below I have listed the sites accordingly that I have copy and pasted information from. I have also somewhat highlighted the important parts in bold and tried to make it easier for those who aren't too much on reading. I am going into large detail to prove my point.

Keep in mind this stuff is US EPA approved, and we were never asked if it was "ok" to have our residences sprayed, or informed on the chemicals used. You have to email the city to find out what they are using & It takes an act of congress to get them to stop or be put on a "no spray" list.

I will start with Pyrethroids and it's effects.

================================================================

( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrethroid )

" A pyrethroid is an organic compound similar to the natural pyrethrins produced by the flowers of pyrethrums (Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium and C. coccineum). Pyrethroids now constitute the majority of commercial household insecticides.[1] In the concentrations used in such products, they may also have insect repellent properties and are generally harmless to human beings in low doses but can harm sensitive individuals.[2] They are usually broken apart by sunlight and the atmosphere in one or two days, and do not significantly affect groundwater quality.[3]...

Environmental effects

Aside from the fact that they are also toxic to beneficial insects such as bees and dragonflies, pyrethroids are toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. At extremely small levels, such as 4 parts per trillion,[9] pyrethroids are lethal to mayflies, gadflies, and invertebrates that constitute the base of many aquatic and terrestrial food webs.[10]

Pyrethroids have been found to be unaffected by secondary treatment systems at municipal wastewater treatment facilities in California. They appear in the effluent, usually at levels lethal to invertebrates.[11] "

----------------------------                                                                  -----------------------------

As I look further here...( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16180929 )

it states..

" ...The mechanisms by which pyrethroids alone are toxic are complex and become more complicated when they are co-formulated with either piperonyl butoxide..."

....such as CSI 30+30.....or ANVIL 10-10...

 "...or an organophosphorus insecticide, or both, as these compounds inhibit pyrethroid metabolism. The main effects of pyrethroids are on sodium and chloride channels. Pyrethroids modify the gating characteristics of voltage-sensitive sodium channels to delay their closure. A protracted sodium influx (referred to as a sodium 'tail current') ensues which, if it is sufficiently large and/or long, lowers the action potential threshold and causes repetitive firing; this may be the mechanism causing paraesthesiae. At high pyrethroid concentrations, the sodium tail current may be sufficiently great to prevent further action potential generation and 'conduction block' ensues. Only low pyrethroid concentrations are necessary to modify sensory neurone function. Type II pyrethroids also decrease chloride currents through voltage-dependent chloride channels and this action probably contributes the most to the features of poisoning with type II pyrethroids. At relatively high concentrations, pyrethroids can also act on GABA-gated chloride channels, which may be responsible for the seizures seen with severe type II poisoning. Despite their extensive world-wide use, there are relatively few reports of human pyrethroid poisoning. Less than ten deaths have been reported from ingestion or following occupational exposure. Occupationally, the main route of pyrethroid absorption is through the skin. Inhalation is much less important but increases when pyrethroids are used in confined spaces. The main adverse effect of dermal exposure is paraesthesiae, presumably due to hyperactivity of cutaneous sensory nerve fibres. The face is affected most commonly and the paraesthesiae are exacerbated by sensory stimulation such as heat, sunlight, scratching, sweating or the application of water. Pyrethroid ingestion gives rise within minutes to a sore throat, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. There may be mouth ulceration, increased secretions and/or dysphagia. Systemic effects occur 4-48 hours after exposure. Dizziness, headache and fatigue are common, and palpitations, chest tightness and blurred vision less frequent. Coma and convulsions are the principal life-threatening features. Most patients recover within 6 days, although there were seven fatalities among 573 cases in one series and one among 48 cases in another. Management is supportive. As paraesthesiae usually resolve in 12-24 hours, specific treatment is not generally required, although topical application of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) may reduce their severity."

--------------------------------                                                       ----------------------------------

(  http://www.anapsid.org/pyrethroids.html  )

"..While pyrethroids may be amongst the least toxic of insecticides, they are an excitatory nerve poison, acting upon the sodium ion channels in nerve cell membranes:

by sending a train of impulses rather than a single one, they overload the pathways, blocking the passage of sodium ions across cell membranes; similar in action to organophosphates (which include the now banned DDT); inhibits ATPase, which affects the release of acetylcholine, monoamine oxidase-A and acetylcholine;

inhibits GABAa receptors, resulting in convulsions and excitability (and more 'minor' problems such as sleep disorders);

known to be carcinogenic;

liver damage

thyroid function

cause chromosomal abnormalities in mice and hamsters;

are highly toxic to insects, fish, and birds;  ....(which eat mosquitos)....

mimic estrogen, leading to estrogen dominant health problems in females and feminizing effects in males, including lowered sperm counts and abnormal breast development;

sublethal doses have produced a wide array of abnormal behaviors, including aggression, and disruption in learning and learned behaviors..." <-- evident by reading the local news. I think this is why we've had an increase in aggressive crimes.

================================================================

Now I move onto the affects of seizures. In short, seizures are bad for the health of your brain, and worsen the condition of your brain with each episode. Gradually causing more and more damage which leads to more and more seizures. Which is exactly my case.

You can google on that yourself if you like, but here are a couple links. I dont feel the need to extensively go on and on on this subject.

I think I rest my case..There are other ways we can defend ourselves against mosquito-borne illness that are safe, natural and effective. Why do we have to put up with these unsafe chemicals that effect the eco-system and people living around it ?

There has to be a chemical-free solution to this problem through essential oils such as mint oil, or lemon balm.

Please stop killing us slowly while trying to stop mosquitos from spreading diseases.
