If you don’t know me, I’m James Rosales. I’m a senior who currently attends Paul Cuffee high school. Through out my 4 years at Cuffee we have never been a sports dominated school. We are used to last place. This year is different as the soccer team has a record of 5-2. We are now in playoffs for the first time in the schools history. November 16th 2020 we were scheduled to face Tiverton High School in the quarter finals. At 2:15pm it was reported that Tiverton will forfeit do to contact with Covid-19. Which means Paul Cuffee would be playing in their first semi-finals. But just a couple hours ago around 8pm I was informed that the inter scholastic league has came to the decision to allow Tiverton Highschool back in (After a forfeit). Their argument ? The player they were in contact with that had Covid-19 had only played 15 min and was around only 4 of their players. Which means the rest of the team is safe as if those 4 players did not huddle back in with their team. So their allowing them to play because they only had 4 players in contact. The league expects us, Paul Cuffee students to continue to face them November 17th 2020. Why is this even a discussion as any team who is in contact with a positive Covid-19 player is forced to quarantine. What is the exception with Tiverton, why should the players and coaches risk their health for This. Players health is number 1 priority but clearly not if this is up for discussion. By signing this petition you believe that Tiverton should not be allowed to continue playing and put at risk all the other players who have worked hard this season.
