Start regulating and enforcing more strict policies on humane livestock slaughtering.

The Issue

In many slaughterhouses and meat farms, animals are mistreated and die in very unneccesaryily cruel ways. In Butterball factories in NC, animals like chickens and young turkeys have their beaks and sensitive toes burned off without painkillers, and are often reported being thrown and inhumanely crammed into macerators. In chicken hatcheries, baby chicks are dropped carelessly and sent through a scalding hot washing machine where they are burned and drown.

Cows are also very poorly treated. In Wisconsin, at the Wiese Brothers Farm, cows were subjecting to violent beatings and being kicked in their snouts. They were drug around by their legs and with chains around their necks, and many of the cows look malnourished and gaunt. They were stabbed and prodded with forklifts, and moved harshily with tractors.

Pigs are also subjected to mistreatment. In the Tyson Pork Group, pigs were repoted to have bowling balls thrown at their heads, they were being kicked around, slammed into metal objects and otherwise tortured. Pipestone Sytem, a major supplier of Walmart, also have reports of baby piglets being dropped on their heads, having their tails and testicles removed without painkillers, and pregnant pigs are often crammed into gestation cells not large enough to even turn around in.

Animals being treated this way is unnessecary and absolutely abominable. The horribly dirty and often diseased areas in which they are slaughtered can contaminate the meat they give and make consumers sick. In this time of post-scarity, meat isn't needed as often as these often crammed scenes depict.

This petition is to protect the right's of the animals being slaughtered to ensure they USDA regulates their fair treatment and to ensure the consumer's health.
