The Animal Welfare Act is supposed to protect animals, to ensure that they are properly being taken care of. In reality, the act doesn't accomplish anything. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is supposed to enforce the law but the truth is they don't.

Facilities that have numerous violations, including failure to provide veterinary care, overcrowded shelters, inefficient safety measures, and failure to train staff are allowed to keep their animals. Not only are violators ignored, the most there fined is a couple of thousand dollars.

Please sign and share to urge the USDA to update the Act. There needs to be better enforcement and harsher punishment. An unenforced law without teeth is no better than a non-existent law.
