President Obama took a defensive tone on Monday when he clarified that Friday's decree about opening bathrooms and locker rooms to members of the opposite sex was intended to "prevent bullying." (http://bit.ly/1WCRLss) The guidelines, sent in letter form to every public school in the nation, also threaten withholding of billions of dollars in federal funds from schools which do not submit to the White House’s unilateral version of morality. Talk about bullying. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, no stranger to enabling sexual deviance, voiced support for Friday's edict but did so, in the words of a Breitbart reporter, "cautiously." (http://bit.ly/22f3Xj6) Meanwhile, South Dakota's governor has called the guidelines, which were sent out to every school in the nation in a letter, "an overreach." Rep. Steve King of Iowa concurred, along with numerous other lawmakers both federal and state. Numerous school superintendents, attorneys general and other officials in Florida, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, New Mexico, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and other states are saying that they will not follow the directive. In Medford, Ore., students themselves protested the mandate at a middle school. In a related matter, officials from West Virginia, Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Maine and North Carolina have signed onto a brief requesting that a federal appeals court rehear a recent case that ruled that a Virginia school district discriminated by not letting a transgender student use the boy's bathroom. Many school systems weighed in that they have so far been unable to come up with a policy or see a way forward, in the face of the sudden, draconian pronouncement from Washington. One prevailing reaction appears to be confusion and reluctance to take a side. In a single day, the Obama administration has managed to do the seemingly impossible: To make a nation already at odds over his policies EVEN MORE DIVIDED.
