Raise the price of fast-food, and lower the price of organic food by 2014

The Issue

With the nationwide epidemic of obesity growing, Americans must begin to eat more nutritiously, in order to prevent potentially severe health problems and medical costs to themselves, as well as to the government. Organic food, however, is currently too expensive for many Americans to purchase; many buy fast-food instead because it is less expensive than healthier alternatives. If the United States' Congress reverses this pricing, by making organic food less expensive than fast-food, more Americans will be able to afford organic food. Although the production of organic food is more costly than that of fast-food, the government should cover the expense of producing certified organic food at less cost to consumers, in order to help safeguard the well-being of all Americans for generations.
