An Average of two horses die per every day on race tracks in the United States alone. Horse racing is an industry that has been abusing and torturing animals for “sport” for many years now. About 1000 horses die on the tracks annually, not including the horses that die off the track out of public sight due to drugging and other abusive situations. Even after horses are retired from their racing careers they are often shipped to Mexico or Canada for slaughter. A recent event at Santa Anita track the 37th horse this year died on the track, this track is recorded to have about 50 fatalities per year. It’s not just Santa Anita, all over the nation horses are dying on the tracks, many of their injuries are because they are too young and their bones aren’t fully developed. It is not a rare case at all for owners to drug their horses with substances such as cocaine, viagra, and other exotic substances. Horses are even allowed to run on sanction drugs such as furosemide, around 90% of horses race on this drug. Recently the United States passed a bill stating that all animal abuse is a felony. The racing industry is quite obviously a large scale “abuse industry” and so it should be shut down. The racing industry could be what is considered a money industry, they have very little concern for the horses and once they stop making them money they get rid of them. Help to shut down the racing industry for good, help give these horses a voice.
