Voice + Vision: The National Summit for Ministries with Youth and Young Adults will take place 7/31/19 - 8/2/19 at Steubenville University, Ohio. The Conference will put heads, hearts, and minds together focusing on how to stop the hemorrhaging of youth from the Roman Catholic Church. Given Steubenville University's commitment to Truth, it is a right venue for this important Event.

Unfortunately, Card. Blaise Cupich accepted an ill-advised invitation by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to attend and address the Conference to give his impressions on "vocational discernment" from the recent Synod on Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment (Synod 2018).

In the wake of the Summer of 2018 sexual abuse crisis, Card. Cupich became a central and controversial figure, attempting to deflect from the massive crisis stating Pope Francis has a "bigger agenda", which includes care of migrants and the environment, and that to pursue investigations into credible accusations of misconduct by prelates, like himself, would be going down a "rabbit hole".

Card. Cupich, even in the face of the recent Illinois "Reproductive Heath Act", allowing abortions up to birth/infanticide, continues to give Holy Communion to pro-abortion, Catholic legislators who voted for the Act, including the prominent Catholics who championed it.

Given that the St. Joseph's college seminary in Chicago closed this June and that the number of seminarians under Card. Cupich's jurisdiction are in decline, what can he possibly say about "vocation discernment?" Obviously nothing. He not the right person to address this central issue.

Card. Cupich's continued presence and prominence at important Church events, such as this Summit, tells our youth that it is business as usual in the Catholic Church. Why wonder about the massive exodus of youth from the Church?

Please contact the USCCB, Youth and Young Adult Ministries, to ask that this unfortunate invitation be rescinded and replaced by a bishop whose seminaries are actually thriving.
